How long does sod take to establish after installation?
Most of our residential sod installations for St. Louis take two to three weeks to begin to root into the soil under normal conditions. Full establishment usually takes 4-6 weeks. This is the point at which normal mowing practices with larger machines and foot traffic can go back to normal. Fall and spring installations tend to root faster than summer installations because cooler temperatures support better establishment.
What’s the difference between sodding and seeding?
Sod gives you an established lawn almost immediately, while seeding takes more time for the grass to mature and fill in completely. months to fill in and requires consistent attention during germination. Sod is the more reliable path to a full lawn, quicker. Our installation process is designed to make sure it establishes the right way from day one.
Can you sod over an existing lawn or does the old grass need to come out?
Most, if not all of the old grass needs to come out. Laying sod over existing turf minimizes root-to-soil contact and can lead to uneven establishment. Our process starts with full removal of existing material and root systems, which gives new sod the clean foundation it needs to establish properly.
