French drain installations are designed to collect water as it moves or percolates through the soil profile. They are typically 18-24″ deep trenches that are lined with a water permeable fabric, with a perforated pipe in the bottom of the trench. The rest of the trench is filled with a a clean aggregate. The water collects in the pipe and is carried away to a designated discharge point away from your outdoor living space. Seep water and curtain drains are essentially French drains that are located in different parts of a property that have a different finish material at the surface. Oftentimes, seep water drains have soil and sod installed on top of them and curtain drains can have anything from decorative gravel to mulch as the finishing detail.
Trench drain installation and catch basin systems involve catching surface water in a drain or basin and directing the water through an underground piping system that discharges in a predetermined area of your property, which is typically away from outdoor living areas and usable parts of the lawn and landscape. Trench drains are typically used to catch water moving across paved surfaces like driveways and sidewalks and catch basins are used in low laying areas in a lawn or landscape.
